"Attic" Condition American Plains Indian Pipe Tomahawk, Circa 1870. In this case, the term attic condition is truly appropriate, as this tomahawk was found in a Texas attic in the last few months. The iron head is 7 15/16" overall, with 2½" slightly curved blade edge. 1 3/8" bowl with the bowl opening to 13/16". The head is completely untouched with deep dark patina overall, just some very light scattered old surface rust, and absolutely no pitting. The head has slid down slightly on the absolutely original haft revealing the smoke hole on the left side correlating with the pipe bowl when in position, clean out/ vent hole on the top. The haft, of course, flares slightly where the head is affixed, flaring again for 4½" near the base to form the "grip." Mouthpiece shows some noteworthy smooth wear, indicating obvious use, with the smoke hole slightly elongated. Haft with dark smooth untouched patina overall and exhibits burn decoration for its length, although no file impressions. There is an additional hole 6½" from the top where decoration was apparently attached, now missing. The blade side of the haft is flat on the back and becomes very narrow where it flares to form the grip. A really wonderful untouched example of this iconic piece of 19th century Plains Indian memorabilia.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
