    Description

Impeccably Provenanced Cartridge / Gun Belt and Side Knife Owned and Used by Famed Texas Ranger Frank Hamer. Best known for tracking down and killing the criminal duo Bonnie and Clyde, Hamer acquired legendary status as a Texas Ranger during a career that spanned form 1906 to 1949. During his remarkable tenure as a Ranger he was wounded 17 times, left for dead 4, and is credited with killing between 53 and 70 people.
The brown tooled leather belt is 2 3/4" wide, and closes with a 1" wide tab and a 1 5/8" X 2 3/4" oval silver buckle engraved with scrolls and flowers.. The belt retains 34 of the original 38 .45 caliber cartridge loops and has an old string repair to a tear 1" back from the billet. Hamer is shown wearing this exact belt on P. 110 of "I'm Frank Hamer" and a copy of the photograph accompanies the belt. An original notarized affidavit from Hamer's son, Frank Hamer Jr., dated 1973, states the belt 'goes with the S. D. Meyers holster, which my father, Ranger Captain Frank Hamer, used as the holster for the Colt single action pistol "Old Lucky" and that the belt was willed to him by his father.
The knife is 12" overall with a 7 3/8" blade, copper cross guard, and antler grip. The face of the scabbard is of alligator hide, fabricated with brass rivets and hand stitching, with a loop with snap that wraps around the grip, and belt loop on the leather reverse. The steel blade is highly polished and sharp as a razor. Overall the set is in excellent condition. The accompanying notarized affidavit from Hamer's son states that "the knife and scabbard were given to my father ...by his close friend, Ranger Captain Bill McDonald......the curved deer horn handle.....came from a deer killed by either Captain McDonald or his father.....the scabbard is handmade.....out of either alligator from the larger scale part of the body or from a crocodile......This was my father's favorite throwing knife. He was extremely accurate at a considerable distance, and I have seen him throw it into an armadillo and pin the armadillo to the ground. The last time I saw it happen was when we were hunting dove on the old Kuykendall Ranch out of Buda around 1930. My father used this in many hand to hand encounters where it saved his life".

A remarkable set of thoroughly documented artifacts, from one of the toughest and most famous Texas Rangers ever to wear the badge. This lot requires 3rd party shipping.
