Glorious Pair of Spanish American War Presentation Flags. We offer two flags, each presented in 1898 to the Third Regiment Infantry New York Volunteers. One is a regimental flag and the other is a national flag. Each is accompanied with the original sterling silver flagpole plaques engraved as follows: "Presented to the/ Third Regiment Infantry N. Y. Vols./ By The/ Society of Sons of the Revolution/ In the State of New York June 4th 1898". The national flag measures 64" x 52" excluding the fringe. It has 45 stars and is made of silk. There is wool embroidery on the fourth red stripe that reads: "3rd Regiment, Infantry, N. Y. Vols." It is well-preserved, with some splits in the silk fabric, concentrated mainly in the lower right corner. The regimental flag is also silk with 2" fringe. Both flags have reinforced pocket sleeves with red, white and blue grosgrain ribbon loops (possibly later additions). The regimental flag measures 57" x 51" excluding the fringe. The central device is an American eagle, thirteen stars, sun rays and a riband reading "3rd Regiment, Infantry, N. Y. Vols." The embroidery goes through to the other side. There is an "L-shaped" section of blue fabric applied as reinforcement on the back side. The vertical section is 8" wide and extends from top to bottom. The horizontal section is 7" high and extends the length of the flag, across the bottom. This backing material serves to fill in areas of loss, situated primarily along the right side and bottom. Besides the loss mentioned, there are vertical splits in the silk material and three small cellophane tape repairs in the blue field. Both flags are extremely handsome and, despite the ravages of time and their inherent delicate nature, can be handled and loosely folded for shipment or storage.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
