French Cuirassier Helmet, post-1840. The helmet has a steel skull with brass edging, fittings, and a tall crest with repoussé decoration with volutes, laurel leaves, and the head of Medusa above a flaming grenade. The lower skull with a black fur turban. At the top front of the comb is a red horsehair brush in a brass holder. A red horsehair tail hangs from the rear of the comb. Plume holder on the left side of the skull. The leather-backed link chin-chain is secured by star bosses (one set-screw missing). The leather liner is weak, but intact. A fine example.
