    Description

Soldier Antonio Sánchez Estate Settlement Documents. 30pp., folio, Coahuila y Tejas, 1836-1845. Written on sealed papers with sewn binding, this collection of about a dozen legal citations documents the complicated estate settlement of one Antonio Sánchez. His widow, María Rafaela Gonzalez, initiated the case, which took almost a decade to settle and involved nearly every aspect of an inheritance that can be imagined. Among the nearly two dozen signatures contained in these papers are several from famous Coahuila and Texas families, including Lt. Manuel D. Barragán, Lt. Col. Rafael Gonzales, and Antonio Sánchez (who was among those who were involved in the black bean incident following the failed Mier Expedition). Signed "Elguézabal" at the top of the first page. Of particular interest is a lengthy inventory, which offers insight into material wealth and culture of that period. Document is age toned and portions are heavily stained with resultant paper damage; rough edges, occasional chips, etc. Good condition but mostly legible. From the Taking of Texas Collection.
