    Description

Fine Quality and Condition Early 19th Century Japanese Matchlock Musket. 52" overall with 39½" .54 caliber smooth bore barrel. The barrel is rounded on the side with flat panel on the top. The 1 5/8" decorative muzzle flares to 1 1/8" at the front. Barrel smooth and dark, completely untouched with just some minor scattered very light pitting. All brass furniture with engraved inlaid mums on the forestock, and butt stock (one missing) There is also a heavy wire inlaid flower on the left side of the buttstock and a cat-like animal on the right side of the buttstock. Octagonal inlay with engraved mum on the top of the stock behind the barrel, with additional mums forward of the trigger guard. There is a heavy faceted ¾" brass band that separates the breech from the buttstock. Mechanism works fine. The wooden stock is near perfect with nice patina and just one tiny hairline, with no loss, just below the breech, very minor. The forestock is characteristically constructed of two halves. All work is of the finest quality. There is no ramrod. An exceptionally nice example, for both quality and condition, of this iconic Japanese firearm.
