David Duff Autograph Letter Signed with Transmittal Envelope. 4pp., two sided, 4to, "San Ángel Mexico", April 20, 1848. David Duff, a 25-year-old lawyer, mustered into the U.S. Army as a private and was promoted to Sgt. Major in June 1848. While stationed at San Ángel, David Duff wrote to General Nilson in Pennsylvania, describing "the misfortune with which our Regiment has met." In part: "Leuts. Dutton, Hare and Mudson are undergoing trial before a court of commissions. Dutton and hare for murder and burglary and Mudson for plotting the scheme... Some eight or ten persons entered a house of deposit in the City of Mexico, which contained, it is said, three hundred thousand dollars, between three and four o'clock in the morning, and attempted to rob and plunder the house. One of the persons of the house fired a pistol at the intruders, whey they returned, instantly killing him." Duff goes on to discuss his poor health, the rumors that are circulating about an armistice, and mentions mutual acquaintances. Letter is beautifully penned and filled with interesting information about events at San Ángel. Envelope bears a Vera Cruz cancellation stamp. Fine condition. From the Taking of Texas Collection.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
