    19th Century British Court Ensemble for Benjamin Thaw, Esq. This interesting group is of the finest quality and in excellent condition. Black velvet tailed coat with stand - up collar, the front, pointed cuffs and tail exhibiting matching 1" cut steel faceted buttons. The quilted interior lined in silk which shows some areas of wear. Black velvet 3/4 length trousers, cotton lined, the cuffs display 3/4" cut steel buttons matching the jacket, and small faceted cut steel cuff buckles. Trousers appear to be entirely hand sewn. Leather slip - on shoes stamped on the soles "Lobb", both with storage wear to the black finish. Pair black silk stockings and a pair of white cotton stockings. White cotton, belted back, vest with faceted steel buttons which show discoloration. White cotton bow tie with steel buckle ends. Court sword with a 31 1/2" triangular blade etched with maker's or distributors name " Davies Wanover St London W.". The cut steel hilt is festooned with faceted studs and decorative chain. Leather scabbard features cut steel throat and drag and is in fine condition. Attached to the scabbard is a black velvet frog and a webbing waist belt which terminates in a small snake buckle. Sword is housed in a black oil cloth case. The black fur felt chapeau displays a circular silk cockade and cut steel / chain emblem. Interior silk lined crown is embossed "Davies & Son 19 Hanover Street, Hanover Square, London". Cased pair of cut steel shoe buckles showing little evidence of use, housed in a velvet / silk lined leather - covered case in excellent condition.
    Ensemble is housed in its original metal case which measures 12 1/2" X 41 " and 5 1/2" deep. Removed from the lid, but present, is a brass plate which is engraved "Benjamin Thaw Esq."
