    Fine US M1860 Cavalry Officer's Saber H. Sauerbier Newark N.J. 32 1/4" curved blade engraved for one half its length with scrolls and a panoply of arms on the obverse. The reverse similar engraving with large block letters U.S. and H Sauerbier Newark N.J. in panel on the ricasso. Blade bright with light wear to the engraving and minor inconsequential dark staining. Hilt perfect with nice brass toning engraved on the full length of outer branches one third of the inner branches, quillon, where the guard enters the pommel and the face of the pommel. Leather grip appears to be a well done rewrap almost undetectable, triple wire wrap perfect. The steel scabbard with most original browned finish, no dents, plain brass ring mounts are excellent, brass drag with wear and a few minor dents. A very nice Civil War sword with unusual motifs by an uncommon maker.
