Exceptional Quality US Eaglehead Infantry Officer's Saber Circa 1825 With Absolutely Magnificent Blade 31" curved blade profusely decorated for 2/3 its length. Brilliant fire blue background which terminates in scrolls, with gilt highlighted engraving including urns, large spread wing eagle with shield and panoply of arms on the obverse with leaf/vine, floral scrollwork and military trophies. Both sides of the blade also display two 2" white etched panels with floral motifs on the reverse, absolutely stunning. Retains the original luster in the white etched panels and 90% of the original fire blue and gilt, the balance with just some minor scattered staining mixing with luster. The brass hilt retains traces of the original silver wash.. Knucklebow composed of acanthus leaves and stylized flower rosettes on the face. Shield shaped langets with tucked wing American eagle with shield, with beaded edge and drapery motif at top. Well defined eagle pommel includes a backstrap which extends to the base of the grip with brass ferrule. One piece ivory grip with carved grooves, with a couple of nearly imperceptible age hairlines and perfectly sound.. Leather scabbard very sound with minor finish crazing. Sheet brass mounts with incised line decoration also show traces of the original silver finish. An impressive eaglehead sword with a remarkable blade.
