    Description

Exceptional Confederate Richmond .58 Caliber Percussion Rifled Musket, CS / Richmond / 1862. One of the finest specimens we've ever catalogued, retaining what appears to be the original Confederate manufactured socket bayonet. The gun retains about 40% of an old tinned finish, the balance generally clean and light gray with just some minor scattered salt and peppering, most notably at the juncture of the barrel and the forestock, and at the breech. Middle and lower band with U's nearly centered while the upper band is unmarked. Mechanically perfect, excellent bore. Wood excellent with just some minor scattered dents and an old, thin coat of varnish. Fitted with a correct, original Confederate leather mounted linen rifle sling. Also retains what appears to be the original socket bayonet. Fits perfectly with a 15.5" blade and long shoulder. Bayonet also excellent. The gun is correct and original in every respect. Overall a very sharp gun and a superior condition primary Confederate longarm.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
