    Elaborate Gold Medal, Co. C, 55th National Guard State of New York, 1867. The gold medal is of three-part construction with a separate suspension bar and connecting disc. The base of the medal is a stand of flags, the United States flag on he left and the New York state flag on the right. Superimposed on the flags is a delicately worked laurel wreath, and on that, a cross. The cross is engraved, "Co. C / 55th N.G.S.N.Y. / Oct. 14th 1867". The reverse is engraved, "Presented by / Lieut. Col. Wm. B. Allen / 55th Regt. N.G.S.N.Y. / as a reward of merit for the / Interest taken in his company / and for having recruited the largest / number of men during the year / from last inspection this date." The connecting disc has an engraved trophy-of-arms. The suspension bar is named "Capt. Sebn. Zuschlag". Unmarked and untested.
