(Worth's Division moving into position under the guns of the enemy, after the action of 'St. Jeronimo', on the morning of 21st. Sept. 1846)." New York: G. & W. Endicott. Colored lithograph engraved "On Stone by F. Swinton." Image size (not including text): 19" x 12.25"; sheet size: 24" x 19". This view is one of in a series of five plates based on Whiting's Army Portfolio ("No. 2" is printed in the lower right corner); Whiting had more in the series, but they were later lost in the Mississippi River. During the Mexican War, he served under General Zachary Taylor and was promoted to major for gallantry in the battles of Fort Brown, Monterey, Vera Cruz, and Cerro Gordo. Foxing, with slightly uneven toning around the borders. Very good. Ex Ben E. Pingenot.
