    Confederate Document Signed by Famous 7th Virginia Cavalry Leader Turner Ashby: Wounded 3 times, had 3 Horses Killed in Battle & after becoming a Brig. Gen. on May 23rd, 1862 was shot & killed two weeks later.
    One can read of the illustrious history of Turner Ashby from the time of John Brown's raid to his death at Cross Keys, Virginia where he was shot in the breast and killed. He is buried in Stonewall Cemetery, Winchester, Va. Leading Stonewall Jackson's Cavalry he was a striking figure and indispensable to Jackson who wrote "Poor Ashby is dead. He fell gloriously. I know you will join me in mourning the loss of our friend, one of the nobelist men and soldiers in the Confederate Army".

    The document is a purchase requisition on blue stationery with a Confederate States imprint at the top. It is dated March 4th, 1862 and signed by Turner Ashby when he was a Col. The requisition is for 2 horses for the Quarter Master's department.
