    Description

    Complete Civil War New York Depot Federal Model 1858 Smoothside Canteen. Measuring approximately 8 ½-inches in diameter. Complete with wool covering, stopper, chain and white cotton sling. The sling is inspector stamped "T. F. Bayles / U.S. Inspector / [the last line indistinct]". Theodore F. Bayles three-line approval stamp began in late 1864. [Mike O'Donnell, U.S. Army & Militia Canteens 1775-1910, page 149]. A wonderful example in choice condition.

    Condition: Excellent. Appears unused, or little used, showing only modest storage stains and age wear.
