Colt SAA Revolver, .45 Caliber, 7 1/2" Barrel, #76031, Mfg. 1881. An interesting gun, consigned to us with two Civil War Gallager carbines (listed elsewhere in this catalog) in like condition. All three guns were apparently made inoperable, with the trigger removed from this gun, and the hammers removed from both of the carbines. The three guns were also apparently stored together in less than optimum conditions as all three appear to have been in very fine condition when stored, but have obviously deteriorated through lack of care over the years. The gun is now generally smooth and gray, with some remaining dry surface rust on the barrel near the muzzle as well as a few other small scattered areas. The areas would all clean leaving the metal smooth and gray with no pitting. Bright blue visible in the recessed areas, such as the ejector rod housing flutes, cylinder flutes, and trigger guard along with some small areas on the backstrap. The hammer, with traces of color, can only be partially cocked as the removal of the trigger has clearly left the mechanism in need of a 'tune up' when the replacement trigger is installed. The excellent cylinder turns freely. The head of the cylinder pin is broken, while the screw turns freely , making removal and replacement a simple task. There is also a small area at the muzzle where the gun was apparently struck that could be smoother. Excellent markings and excellent bore. The untouched grips show some wear along the bottom edge but excellent retaining most of the original varnish. A very nice sharp, unaltered, black powder SAA simply in need of a bit of TLC.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
