Colt M1849 Pocket Model .31 Caliber Percussion Revolver #180511 Matching, Including Wedge, Mfg. Late 1860, with a History of Confederate Naval Use. The gun was consigned by a lateral descendant of the original owner, who also happens to be one of today's most respected Confederate Naval historians. The gun is accompanied by an affidavit from the consignor detailing the gun's lineage and history. The gun was owned and used by Seaman Robert Pilert, CSN. Pilert, a resident of Baltimore, served in the Richmond Squadron, and was assigned to the CSS Torpedo. Pilert fought, aboard the Torpedo, at the Battle of Trent's Reach on January 23-24 1865 and was subsequently assigned to Tucker's Naval Brigade, resulting in his capture at Sayler's Creek on April 6, 1865.

The gun is totally untouched with smooth brown patina overall, just one small spot of light pitting on the cylinder, minor, the straps retain traces of silver. Excellent markings with two line Hartford address, 5 shot, 6" barrel, very good cylinder scene. Missing the front trigger guard screw and the wedge screw, else complete original, and untouched in every respect. Grips excellent, just showing some honest wear along the bottom edge with one corner chip, retaining about 50% of the original varnish. The gun will not cock and cylinder very tight, one frame screw head slightly damaged, but easily repaired. A nice, totally honest and quintessentially untouched, Colt Pocket with a great history.
