    Description

Very Rare Variant M1840/ 60 Civil War Cavalry Saber by Emerson & Silver, Trenton, New Jersey. First example we've seen and likely a New Jersey state contract. 35.5" blade of the M1840 configuration, about mint, just some hardened grease. Marked "N.J." on the obverse ricasso and "Emerson & Silver/ Trenton, N. J." on the reverse, the die slightly oversize and probably originally designed for use on the M1860 blade with higher ricasso. The hilt and grip of the M1860 configuration. Hilt perfect with dark untouched patina, grip excellent, retaining 90% of the original leather, just showing some honest use, and retaining all of the original twisted brass wire. Scabbard also of the M1840 configuration, with riveted throat, perfect with smooth dark patina. A most unusual and doubtless very rare Civil War cavalry saber.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
