    Very Nice Group of Civil War Period and Earlier Surgical/Amputation Instruments. Group includes: a 12 3/4" overall tenon saw with 9 3/4" blade that utilizes a perforated cutting edge. The decorative pistol grip handle is moulded of gutta percha with the British Royal seal and "Razor Maker To His Majesty" on the obverse side and "J. Weiss London No. 62 Strand" on the reverse. Excellent condition with just a few scattered areas of surface rust; a surgical style razor with tortoise shell handles and just 7" when opened. Excellent condition with maker's name on the base of the blade; a huge, 20" overall, Liston amputation knife with 4 5/8" checkered ebony handle. A few minor spots of surface rust and a tiny chip at the tip, else excellent. Marked Evans & Co. (street address) London. The largest we've ever seen.; a 14 1/2" overall Liston amputation knife with 4 7/8" checkered ebony grip. Perfect condition and marked Sharp & Smith on the ricasso.; an 11" Liston amputation knife with plain 4 3/8" ebony handle. Perfect condition and marked Wood on the ricasso; a 9 1/4" Liston amputation knife with 4 1/8" checkered ebony handle. Perfect condition and marked Down / London. This knife is housed in its own walnut custom case with brass fittings and brass label on one top edge, "Down Brothers Makers London" also a small printed paper lid is attached to the lid, "Box 1/3 / The Price charged for this box will be credited if returned in good condition / Down Bros., 5 & 7 Thomas's St. London, S. E.". Closure affected by two brass hooks on the front. Box also in perfect condition and most unusual.; A small mortised mahogany case surgical or dissecting kit. The case with brass escutcheon on the slightly domed lid, 3 1/4" X 7 1/2" X 1 5/8" high. Closure affected with a lock, no key. Pair of scissors in the lid with six instruments with ivory plaque grips, four scalpels and a rasp, all marked Lund and a retractor marked by a different maker, but matches the set perfectly. Set overall in excellent condition. A most impressive group of instruments and all Civil War period or earlier.
