Very Fine U.S. M1861 .58 Caliber Percussion Rifled Musket, Bridesburg / 1862, with Period ID to John W. H. Knerr, 129th and 47th Penna. Vols. All metal smooth and light gray, just a couple of tiny patches of salt and pepper pitting by the front band, really negligible. Mechanically crisp, excellent sharp bore, fine markings including matching 1862 breech date. Wood also really excellent with dark untouched patina and visible inspector's cartouche, just a few minor dents/ scratches. Very sharp. Retains the original leather sling, very good. Absolutely authentic die stamped markings on the tail of the trigger guard "j. W. H. K." and purchased directly from the family. Knerr joined the 129th on August 12, 1862, and served with the regiment until his discharge May 18, 1863. He subsequently joined the 47th Penna. on February 15, 1865, serving with that regiment until December 25. Accompanied by a letter of provenance and a full set of records. An exceptional M1861 rifled musket with wonderful period ID.
