    Very Fine Civil War Inscribed Non - Regulation Field & Staff Officer's Sword Emerson & Silver 32" blade about mint. Etched panel on the obverse extending 1/2 the length with scrollwork, panoply of arms and American shield similar panel on the reverse with large US flanked by scrollwork. Marked "IRON PROOF" on the back of the blade. Retains original leather washer. Cut brass basket type guard with large spread wing eagle over US with riband above. Scroll type quillon. Guard slotted for sword knot where it enters the pommel. Stepped pommel with capstan and full backstrap. Sharkskin grip with triple wire wrap perfect. Scabbard also fine with most original brown finish. Just two small dents 10" above the drag. Brass stepped throat with brass mounts engraved on the obverse. Backstrap engraved "J.H.Chubb" in fine original script. John H. Chubb served in the 15th US Infantry. Fine example of this popular sword with nice period ID.
