    U.S. Model 1861 .58 Cal Percussion Rifled Musket, Muir 1863, Identified to Pvt George J Ditter 18th Wisconsin Infantry.
    Model 1861 percussion musket lock plate marked "Wm Muir Co Windsor Locks Ct", Eagle US and 1863 date behind the hammer in untouched "attic" condition. All metal is dark with an undisturbed patina. Wood showing normal wear just a few small dents and a small crack at the back of the lock. Dark bore, original ramrod. Gun is identified by family history to Private George J. Ditter Co A 18th Wisconsin Infantry and was purchased at public auction for the estate of Ambrose Ditter, a direct descendant. George J. Ditter enlisted as a private in Co A. 18th Wisconsin Infantry 10/14/1861, served throughout the war, mustered out 7/18/1865. The 18th Wisconsin was heavily engaged in the deep south for most of the war loosing 225 men. Included is an extensive file of Ditter family history, George Ditter's records, information concerning the original purchase, and an 11 1/4" X 58" well executed framed display showing copied photographs, discharge papers and muster roll.
