    U.S. Model 1816 Springfield Conversion Musket Butt Tang Marked "S.C. 6" 72 caliber 41 1/4" drum conversion round barrel, dark with surface roughness, lightly pitted at the breech. Remainder of iron also dark with scattered light surface rust. Functioning lock marked "Springfield 1823", crisp tight action, cast iron percussion hammer possibly a Confederate conversion. Wood shows a deep patina, small dents, scratches, a tight 3" crack forward the trigger guard, a small area of fill at the front of the lock and the comb has been reduced. Iron butt plate tang with the letters "US" obliterated with cut lines and "S.C. 6" added. Missing center band.
