    Union Secretary of the Navy Gideon Welles Carte de Visite, Signed Document and Clipped Signature. Including: 1) Fine CDV Brady image of Welles seated. E. Anthony studio imprint on the verso. Excellent condition. 2) Civil War date U.S. Navy Department document signed "Gideon Welles", as Secretary of the Navy, One page on integral second leaf, 8" x 10", Washington, February 17, 1865, partially printed, the remainder in manuscript. Welles signs a document attesting to the physical fitness of an Ensign E. E. Preble. Toned, with the usual smoothed fold creases, otherwise excellent condition. 3) Clipped signature, 4 ¾" x 2", "I am respectfully / Gideon Welles / Secretary of the Navy". Excellent condition.
