    Description

Singular Rhode Island Artillery Badge Made from Confederate Shell. This unique and attractive lapel pin was made for the veterans of the 3rd Rhode Island Heavy Artillery and has a wonderful historical connection. The device itself is 0.75" in diameter with a gold rim having the small blue enameled lettering "3rd R. I. H. A. Vet. Assn." in the center is enameled a blue pair of crossed Parrot Rifled Cannon barrels on a white field over which is superimposed a red enamel 10th Corps badge. A simple post/ disk fastener is on the reverse. The emblem is mounted on a card with a printed inscription which reads "This badge is made of the base of a/ solid shot fired from a Brooks Rifle/ in the Confederate Battery Bee, Sul-/ livan's Island, S.C./ The shot passed over the Ironclad/ New Ironsides, and landed in/ the works of the 3d R. I. H. Artill'y on/ Morris Island, S.C./ Contributed by Capt. Geo. L. Smith." The pin is in near perfect condition and appears to have never been off the descriptive card. A truly unusual veterans memento with great history and visual appeal.

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
