Single Civil War Confederate Officer's Spur as Produced by Memphis Novelty Works. All brass with very large relief letters CS on either side of the rowel base, the rowel being a large multi pointed copper star. Adjacent to both of the boot strap loops is a large five pointed star. It is possible the rowel is a very old replacement, with the spur being absolutely authentic and period. This is the exact specimen illustrated on page 190, Plate 199 in the Albaugh/Simmons 1957 seminal work Confederate Arms. Very rare, with only a handful of existing specimens, this example probably being the best known and most impeccably documented of all. Prov. Flayderman Collection
