SEVEN STAR EARLY WAR CONFEDERATE FIRST NATIONAL FLAG. Pre-dates April 17, 1861 when Virginia became the eighth state to secede. Body of the flag is of wool bunting. Six white cotton 4" stars are arranged in a circle with the seventh star in the center, double sided. The 2 ¼" white cotton hoist has five grommet holes reinforced with hand stitching. The flag is 28" on the hoist and 57" on the fly including the hoist. Each stripe is constructed of two strips. Completely hand stitched. The body of the flag, excluding the hoist is bound with a thin stitched in white cotton cord. A very nice early Confederate first national flag laden with character and in a very desirable size.

Chicago Historical Society dexecessed to Arnold Chernoff.

All colors bright and all of the white cotton hand stitching is tight. Some minor spots of damage scattered about, most notably on the corners of the fly and the blue field at the hoist. Very sound and has been nicely mounted and framed for presentation.

This flag has been carefully examined by authoritative in-house experts and has been deemed to be authentic and of the period in every respect including fabric, thread, dye and the method and pattern of construction. Additionally, any accompanying provenance has been verified as unique and indigenous to the specific flag it documents.
