    Samuel Ring [17th Regiment Maine Infantry]: Uniform and Related Artifacts.
    Samuel Ring of Lovell, Maine, enlisted on August 8, 1862. He mustered into Company B, 17th Regiment Maine Infantry. Wounded on May 12, 1864 at Spotsylvania Court House, he was discharged on May 22, 1865. This lot includes: 1) 13-button blue wool cape with 12 brass general service buttons still in place. There is a 3rd Corps silver & enamel badge pinned to the area just below the collar. It measures 1" x 1.75". There is scattered mothing, mostly around the back side, concentrated near the collar. 2) 70 mm x 42 mm stamped brass belt plate reading "V M M" (hook and arrowhead stud). 3) Ninth plate-tintype of Ring in uniform wearing a VMM belt which may be this same exact one. Some damage to thermoplastic case with minor repair. Image is fine.
