Revolutionary War Period Teardrop Shape Standing Wooden Canteen With Crown Stamp.
A rarely seen canteen type measuring approximately 11 ¼-inches tall; 5 ½-inches wide and 4 ¼-inches deep. Featuring teardrop-shaped front and rear panels with slats held by ¾-inch wide metal bands. The spout is likewise trimmed in metal. Iron lanyard rings are mounted on either side to which is currently mounted a ½-inch leather strap. It's unknown if the strap is original to the canteen. The bottom of the canteen features two wooden legs to allow the canteen to rest securely upright. Of particular interest is a faintly stamped crown within a 1 ¼-inch circle. The significance of the crown stamp is unknown, but it can be speculated that it was perhaps an English proof mark or trademark.

Condition: Very good condition. The wood exhibits a few nicks and scuffs, as expected for an item that is over 200 years old. The wood slats are solid and the metal bands quite tight. The metal has light surface rust as you would expect. There is evidence of old pitch or some other similar material in the crevices to bolster the sealing properties. Leather strap worn, but sturdy, nicked half-way through at the center.

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
