Rare Civil War Grouping of Three Images of the Same 1st Nebraska Inf. Soldier with Great ID. Ink script note that accompanies the images, dated Dec. 1915 states, Thomas Edwin Keene 1st Nebraska the battles of Fort Donaldson & at Pittsburg landing (sic) 7 other engagements" the note is signed by his sister and further states that he is buried in the Soldier's Cemetery at Erie, Pa. Interestingly Keen was, in fact, born in Pennsylvania. Keen enlisted in the 1st Nebraska Inf. on 7/3/61 and served with the regiment until 11/6/63 when it became the 1st Nebraska Cavalry. He served with that unit until muster out on 8/24/64. The three images include: a prewar ambrotype, in fine double sided leather case, with ink script ID on pad "Thomas Edwin Keen / About 19 yrs. old / Taken in Nebraska". Image fine quality and fine untouched condition; a ninth plate tintype of Keen, now sporting a mustache and beard, with ink script ID "Thomas Edwin Keen / About 20 years old in original fine condition floral/geometric case; finally a superb quality ambrotype of Keen, in pristine untouched condition, in military uniform. Again, obviously a bit older, with much fuller facial hair, he wears nine button frock coat and bummer's cap, most likely executed upon his entry into the 1st Nebraska in July of 1861. In original fine condition floral geometric leather case, hinge split. Wonderful group with superb ID and the first images from Nebraska we recall cataloguing.
