P1858 .577 Caliber Enfield Percussion Rifled Musket, Tower, 1862. Very nice example of this Civil War rifled musket extensively used by troops both North and South, and one of the few imported weapons comparable in quality and accuracy to US produced weapons. Metal generally smooth and gray with just a few very minor patches of salt and peppering, with absolutely no pitting, including the breech area. Excellent markings, mechanically perfect with bore also about perfect. All brass furniture with nice dark untouched patina. The hammer screw is an old replacement, else complete and original in every respect. Wood also excellent with nice rich untouched patina with sharp edges and just some very minor scattered dents. Accompanied by the original period leather sling. Exceptionally nice example with desirable early war lock date. There were more Enfields being issued during the war than all US rifled muskets combined.
