MOH Winner Daniel P. Reigle: Battle of Cedar Creek Broadside.
14.5" x 9.75" broadside or "Circular", n.p. [probably Middletown, Virginia], October 22, 1864, congratulating the members of Company F, 87th Pennsylvania Volunteers for their heroic effort at the Battle of Cedar Creek, noting "Corporal Daniel P. Reigle... for gallantly rushing forward through a terrific fire and capturing a Rebel Flag at the stone fence where the enemy's last stand was made." In connection therewith, Reigle was to travel to Washington, D.C. and personally receive the Medal of Honor from President Lincoln. Mounted to board. Restoration to lower right corner and one small area of the blank top margin. Some minor tears. Very good overall. A very unusual piece.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
