    Description

Manual of Instruction For the Volunteers and Militia of the State of Texas. Taken From Gilham's Manual of Instruction for the Volunteers and Militia of the United States. Galveston: Richardson & Co., 1861. First edition. 12mo. 64pp. Pink printed wraps. Paper covers wrinkled and puckered. Much of the paper covering the spine is gone; spine splitting and fragile. Faint dampstain to back cover. In a handsome custom half-leather slipcase with chemise and ribbon pull. A good copy of an infrequently-encountered title.

"The undersigned recommend the republication, in cheap form, of 'The School of the Soldier' from Gilham's Manual of Instructions, for the benefit of the Volunteers, now being called into service in Texas, and aid in establishing uniformity of drill throughout the state. - [General] H[ugh]. McLeod, [General] S[idney]. Sherman.
