John C. Terrell Autograph Letter Signed. One page, folded and addressed on verso for mailing, 8" x 10.5", "Camp Dix, Reo Freo, Aug. 1st 1862." Interesting letter to Captain John J. Dix of the Texas Frontier Regiment from his 1st Lieutenant, John C. Terrell, in which Terrell directs Dix to make preparations to build a corn bin and commissary at Camp Dix. Although it is unclear why Terrell would be giving such orders to his superior officer, his directions are clear. In part: "Sir, you will detail a ... Squad or Party to Build Bins of some of the Plank to hold Corn, say 1000 Bushels. I want the Balance of the Lumber for a Commissary & the Bins & Commissary to be Built in Front of my Tent. This you will have done immediately." As the ongoing period of drought afforded little forage for saddle horses and pack animals in the field, the detail was considered high priority. Very good condition with slight soiling and several small wormholes along right edge.
