Ironclad U.S.S. Lafayette: 36-Star Stern Flag.
67" x 60" wool flag with 36 stars in a standard row pattern. Machine-stitched with two brass grommets on the partial hoist. Short lateral separation below the canton. Hoist inscribed "La Fayette Stern Flag 302472865" and "Tony Lazzerini 36 star Nevada 1864". The U.S.S. Lafayette was an ironclad ram that participated in the siege of Vicksburg in 1863, but this flag was issued subsequently to that engagement. The ship was decommissioned on July 23, 1865 and sold on March 28, 1866.
