    Description

Historic UCV Flag Patterned After the Confederate Third National Flag. 20" X 34 1/2" printed, double sided on glazed linen. Classic Third National pattern, obviously post war, with the following history neatly inscribed in ink, "This Flag Was Used In Decorating No. 505 West Grace for Confederate Reunion - May 30th to June 3d, 1907. On Which Days The Stuart (May 30) And Davis (June 3) Monuments Were Unveiled in the Presence of 125,000 People". Also inscribed at the top, "ALSO Used At Ashland Va. (Constable House) During Confederate Re-Union In Richmond, Va. June 2d - 4th 1915." Flag overall in very fine, sound, complete condition, just showing some minor crazing of the color glazing. The Stuart statue, located in Stuart Circle, was actually unveiled during the ceremony by Virginia Stuart Waller, the general's grand-daughter. The Davis monument, located at the juncture of Monument and Davis Avenues, was designed by architect William C, Noland and sculptor Edward N. Valentine. Very attractive and impressive flag, and the first UCV flag we've encountered with such a detailed history of use.

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
