    Highly Attractive Gold Trimmed Cavalry Officer's Chasseur Cap. One of the most colorful and stylish pieces of 19th Century headgear to ever come on the market, this stunning kepi embodies the dashing spirit of the quintessential cavalry officer. The bright red body rests on a medium blue band and is trimmed with ¼" wide gold bullion tape around the top and bottom of band, up the sides and into a unique multi-looped sunburst design on top. On the front is affixed its original pair of small cavalry sabers embroidered in gold thread on a black velvet oval, bordered by spun wire. Cavalry officer "C" buttons affix the original narrow leather sweatband and the piece retains its short, bound visor. A small leather loop has been placed through the base of the cap in the rear by the original owner to facilitate hanging. The interior has the full leather sweatband and polished cotton lining, both showing period wear. A thick leather stiffener with glazed surface is in the crown. There is no maker's marking. The piece is in exceptional condition with the most minimal moth tracking in one small spot. There is some seam opening where the visor connects to the body and one small section of gold tape needs to be reaffixed, all easily accomplished. In all, an eye catching American Civil War period cap of the highest quality.
