Grouping of Three Nice Union Soldier Images. The first image in this trio is an excellent full standing quarter plate view of a young, armed infantry private wearing forage cap and dress coat and cradling at his side what appears to be a Model 1842 musket with fixed bayonet. This classic image, with gold touches on the soldier's buttons and cap, is clear with good contrast and eye appeal. It is housed in a full but damaged case. The second image is a carte de visite identified in period ink on the reverse as "Thos. Cushing/ Surgeon/ 20 USCT." Cushing is shown in a knees-up view wearing his double breasted major's frock coat with slouch hat in hand and regulation Medical Corps sword hanging from his sword belt. There is no backmark. Cushing served as asst. surgeon of the 28th N.Y. Vol. Infantry from August 1862 to March 1863, serving at Second Manassas and Antietam. He then joined the 20th USCT. The third image is a carte de visite of a young infantry 2nd lieutenant assuming a dramatic pose with arms folded over his single-breasted frock coat and foot officers sword hanging conspicuously at his side. The mount is marked "Brady/ Washington" on the front and has the "M. B. Brady & Co." studio imprint on the reverse. The name "Will Porter" is written in period pencil as well. The image is bold and very clear. A fine assemblage of photos.
