Group of Five Very Nice Civil War Period Brass Telescopes. One four section, 16" long when opened, wooden/mahogany base section, perfect optics, retaining sliding eye piece and brass bottom lens cover. Some minor dents on the wood but excellent. Interesting with narrow leather bands wrapped around the top and bottom of the body. Retains the original papier mache two piece case; one four section, 15" when opened, black leather covered body. Retains sliding eye piece cover, no bottom lens cover and there is a very small chip at the edge inside the bottom lens, else about perfect; one four section, 16 3/4" long when opened. Two piece black leather covering on brass body, lower section of covering missing. Retains sliding eye piece cover and bottom brass lens cap. 1 1/2" diameter body; One four section brass, 6 7/8" when opened. Fabricated without lens covers; One four section brass with wood/walnut body, 17" when opened. Body with 1 1/4" diameter. Missing both lens covers and tiny, really negligible chip at edge of inside of lower lens, else about perfect. All with excellent optics, all in excellent condition, absolutely no dents and all unmarked. Typical of the instruments carried in the saddle bags or, in some cases, pockets of Civil War officers, North and South. Very nice group.
