    Description

Great 1901 Forrest Cavalry Corps Reunion Pitcher. With an etched portrait of Confederate General Nathan Bedford Forrest staring proudly from it, this tin pitcher is a remarkable souvenir of a 1901 reunion of his cavalry troopers. This is a typical turn-of-the-20th-Century household implement with a bold portrait of Forrest wearing his Confederate general's coat in a circle, with a wreath design and riband below lettered "Gen. N. B. Forrest." The actual artwork appears to be lightly etched into the tin and then colored with black ink, thus practically none of the painting has flaked off over the years as it would if simply painted on smooth metal. The piece measures 11" from bottom to spout with a base 5" in diameter. The bottom is nicely lettered in black: "Forrest/ Cavalry/ Corps/ Memphis May/ 1901." The entire pitcher is in excellent condition with just a small ring of rust on the underside where the bottom attaches to the side. A really unusual and perhaps unique Confederate veterans' souvenir.
