    Description

GETTYSBURG, PENNSYLVANIA (No. 35). Sullivan's panoramic view of the village of Gettysburg, seat of Adams County with a population of about 4000. Seeming at first glance like any small Pennsylvania farming community, the cluster of shelter tents at right indicate there is much more to the town's story than simply agriculture and county business. Mount measures 12.25 by 10 inches and the 9 by 7 inch image has great clarity, with only a tiny stain on the mount touching the image on the left. Dated 1866 and noted "Negative by T. H. O'Sullivan" and "Positive by A. Gardner..." with the date taken: "July, 1863." Another noteworthy photograph.
