First Type Gwynn & Campbell .52 Caliber Percussion Breech Loading Carbine, #3015 Matching. Fine overall condition retaining 50% of the original blue mixing with smooth dark patina, just the hammer showing a number of small scattered dents, minor. Mechanically perfect, excellent bore, fine markings including "Union Rifle" on the right side of the frame. Wood also really excellent with raised grain and crisp inspector's cartouche. There are two tiny holes in the butt plate where apparently an old brass collection ID tag was once attached, easily repaired. Fine example of this limited production Federal cavalry carbine, many of which saw heavy use in the western theater of operations.
