    Description

Fine Condition US Issue Medical Department Blanket. This cadet gray wool blanket measures approximately 64 by 84 inches and is set off by a distinctive 2 inch wide green stripe running down each of the shorter sides about 6 inches from the edge. Those edges have been carefully bound in red wool stitching to give the piece greater durability. Clearly stenciled in red in the approximate center of the blanket is "U.S.A. MED. DEPT" in a circle measuring a foot in diameter. All lettering is visible, but light and showing age in places. Overall condition is outstanding with only some minor mothing and a few negligible tears. This is an especially attractive and rare blanket dating from the 1860s or 1870s, and the first example we have ever encountered
