Fairfax Court House Albumen. A 9" x 7" albumen on a 13" x 18" two-tone titled mount depicting "Fairfax Court-House." This image by Alexander Gardner and Timothy O'Sullivan was taken in June 1863 and published in Gardner's 1866 portfolio Photographic Sketchbook of the Civil War. The view shows around half-a-dozen mounted soldiers, one soldier seated by the well poring over a map or newspaper, and another soldier perched on the roof, alongside the steeple or cupola, acting as lookout. Fairfax Court House was the site of a famous Civil War battle. The first Union officer casualty of the war occurred there. The circa 1800 structure still stands and is currently used for office space. Chips to three corners, else very fine, bold and resonant.

This was my first time dealing with an auction house, and I am 100% completely impressed with Heritage. There is not an aspect of this process that I have a critique for.
