Exceptional, Untouched Condition, Quintessential Example of the Iconic Confederate "Dog River" Cavalry Saber and Scabbard. 35½" blade with unstopped fuller that extends from the hilt to within 6" of the tip. Blade generally smooth and dark gray with some typical forging flaws. No rust pitting or nicks, very nice. Hilt near perfect with dark untouched patina. Brown leather wrap with single strand wire displaying just one worn spot, wire tight. Totally untouched. Hilt quite heavy with branches exhibiting a distinctive and unique form. Scabbard with brass ring mounts and throat. Overall dark untouched patina with just a few small patches of pitting and absolutely no dents and obvious brazed seam. Choice example of this desirable Confederate "working saber."

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
