    Description

Exceptional Confederate Battlefield Recovered Locally Manufactured Tube Pouch. One of the finest condition pieces of Confederate locally manufactured Civil War equipment we've ever seen. An artillery tube pouch showing every quintessential detail of Confederate construction. Much larger than the equivalent US form of this box measuring 6" high, 2" wide at the top and tapering to 1 1/2" the bottom. The front flap is 7" from the top to the decoratively cut bottom. Constructed entirely of thick brown leather exhibiting no tool marks other than a couple of pin holes. Latch tab with tear at one side but no loss although exhibiting some flaking. the front flap has one dark spot at the right hand edge that would be commensurate with deterioration from blood. Both belt loops on the back are intact and sound although they exhibit some finish crazing from use and some flaking on the top of one loop. Box is entirely hand stitched and utilizes a large ball pewter/lead finial. The box is accompanied by an old 3" X 6" pencil script tag, Confederate Cartridge Box picked up on a battlefield of the Civil War. Shot and canister from same place" Sadly, the specific battlefield is not identified. A great piece of Confederate locally manufactured equipment with the quality indicating early war production and in superb untouched condition.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
