The last book published in the Confederacy

Edward A. Pollard: Observations in the North: Eight Months in Prison and on Parole. (Richmond: E. W. Ayres, 1865). 142 pages, with tipped-in slip from the distributor, A. R. Henry of the New York Tribune, on the title page. It talks about the author's capture aboard a blockade runner while en route to England, his imprisonment at Fort Warren, and the reception he received in the North while free on parole (by the "semi-secesh" people of Boston) and the fact that his book went through two editions before the remainder was purchased by Henry subsequent to the Fall of Richmond in April 1865. Re-bound at the time in pebbled stiff wraps and housed in a leather and gilt custom slipcase. Excellent condition.
