Doubtless the Rarest of the Gettysburg 75th Reunion Medals, Possibly the Only Example Extant and Certainly the Only Example We've Ever Seen, on or off the Market. 11mm x 46mm gilt brass top bar with side locking clasp pin back, "Member/ Of Commission", marked Bailey, Banks & Biddle, Philadelphia, on the reverse. Suspended below is a 53mm sterling silver (marked) convex "breast star" which is inscribed in block letters on the reverse in an arc "Hon. Harry L. Haines". The artificially oxidized gilt brass overlay is attached to the star with two tiny rivets, the U.S. and Confederate flags in enamel. The badge in mint condition and housed in the original padded silk lined box, just missing the lid. Harry Luther Haines (1880-1947), was from Red Lion, York County, Pennsylvania, and at the time of the reunion was serving as a Democratic representative to the 75th U.S. Congress, serving in Congress from 1931-1939 and again from 1941-1943. A unique opportunity for the sophisticated Gettysburg or GAR collector.
