    Diary and Items Relating to John M. Gamwell Co B 49th M.V.M. KIA at Port Hudson May 27, 1863 Leather bound pocket diary inked on the fly "Diary John M. Gamwell Camp Wool Nov 8 - 62, with entries until April 26 1863, ink and pencil in clear lettering describing camp life, skirmishes and battles, binding is loose as are a few pages; Pocket Testament dated 1862 with label presenting it to "J.M. Gamwell 49th Regiment Mass Volunteers by the Bershire Co Bible Society", stenciled with his name and unit, excellent condition; Printed poem titled "The Massachusetts Boys on Their Way to Dixie"; War Meeting flyer dated August 25, 1862 with notation on the bottom "Milton enlisted at this meeting"; Lock of hair with note stating that it was from John Milton Gamwell; Stencil that reads "J.M. Gamwell Co B. 49th M.V.M.; Sixth plate tintype of John Gamwell in uniform, dark; Daguerreotypes of Gamwell and his wife; Tintype of son; Ninth plate ambrotype of Gamwell in uniform, nice clear image; Sixth-plate ambrotype's of Gamwell and his wife; Quill pen; Turned wood sander; Pin cushion; Silver thimble; Bullet from Port Hudson; Pension record dated 1868 , Army Pay Certificate issued at his death stating that he was killed in action at Port Hudson May 27 1863. All contained in wood box 14 1/2" wide 10" deep, in old red finish painted on both ends "J.M.G."
