    Description

Civil War: Very Rare Full-Color Freed Slave Colored Troop Recruiting Handbill. 8.25" x 10". The full-color lithograph pictures a black officer with sword raised and holding the Stars and Stripes from which flies a riband with "Freedom to the Slave" and topped by a red liberty cap. The background shows Blacks attending school and church, reading, and seated by a plow. To the right of the central figure is a line of United States Colored Troops marching into battle, a black soldier freeing shackled slaves, and a freed slave ripping the Confederate national flag with his bare-hands. The fore-ground is littered with artillery projectiles and broken chains. The backside of the handbill reads, "All Slaves were made Freemen by Abraham Lincoln, President of the United States, January 1st, 1863. Come, then, able-bodied Colored Men, to the nearest United States Camp, and fight for the Stars and Stripes". Two small spots of light discoloration to the left side, else very fine.

The pre and post sales experience was wonderful and flawless. Heritage has the best in-house operation I have ever seen and their people are not only professional but fun to work with, especially Steve C.

As for Heritage's online system… Yes the interface is more complex than what we are used to with SAN but what is behind that interface is amazing for sellers and buyers alike. It is real time and for a real serious auction buyer there is nothing better in the auction industry, bar none.
